Chef Vonda exemplifies empowered living.  She is an example of what it means to live as a leader.  She is a woman who knows how to lead her way to success.  Congratulations Chef Vonda on all your accomplishments.  Thank you for creating beautiful spaces that bring communities together!

In 1998, Vonda McPherson opened her very first restaurant venture in Elizabeth, N.J., a bustling downtown business district. Shack's BBQ became known as a destination for traditional Southern BBQ cuisine.  Following Shack's BBQ, Vonda started her catering business, Vonda K's Catering & Events. The makings of Vonda K's Catering and Events were meticulously fashioned into a formal corporation to commence with serving the catering and special event planning desires of an emerging clientele that spanned from local families and community members to some of the most prominent corporations, organizations and political figures throughout the state of New Jersey.

Vonda's Kitchen is the second restaurant venture to be launched by Vonda McPherson. Vonda's Kitchen has rapidly become a fixture of one of most historic communities. Nestled in the heart of Newark, an area also known as the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD), which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.  Her reputation for groundbreaking cuisine landed her an opportunity to cater for the 2014 Super Bowl, where she provided two classic dishes for the VIP Tailgate Party on Super Bowl Sunday.

Vonda has been featured in the Star Ledger, in Black Entrepreneurs, The Super Bowl Committee Business Connect Newsletter, Radius Magazine, NJ Jersey Monthly, AARP, NJPAC Monthly Magazine, Positive Community, Newark Bound Magazine, Huffington Post, Pete Genovese's NJ Food and Wine, as well as countless other media outlets. She has also been featured on Channel 12 News, CBS Phoenix, AZ, Steve Adubato and recently, she was featured in The Food Network's Holy and Hungry, with host Sherry Shepherd.

Her goal is to always define the needs of the community and from that Duke's Southern Table, located in the down town area of Newark, N.J. was born. Duke's is her third restaurant.  She continues to move forward in making an impact in her community and understands the need for quality, healthy food and great entertainment.
